There are two ways to absorb God's noble and precious presence: meditate often the Bible, and a sort of radiance will appear to your awakened eye; or, look up and strengthen your heart's bright spirit, by the cross, a book where He shows Himself so compellingly vulnerable, so close to us, your eye cannot look elsewhere, cannot go astray. The first way's unsure, to reach the craved port, journey's end, you must pass through long doubftul labyrinthine paths; the second's transparent in meaning, it's right there, illumined by His inner flame, oh run there swiftly, sure-footed, to Him. |
